Julie Featherstone joined the University of Virginia in 2016 as the Associate Vice President for Advancement Operations. Under her leadership, the vast and complex UVA advancement infrastructure has been thoughtfully redesigned and modernized through a systematic change management process. To this end, Julie established a Grounds-wide University Advancement Technology Steering Committee to vet, select, and help implement UVA’s investments in technology. She has built bridges with UVA’s 18 fundraising foundations to take a “OneUVA” approach to data, technology, and business process decisions. Her work has revolutionized UVA’s technology ecosystem by introducing and implementing enterprise-wide technologies that provide the best-in-class frontline support.
Featherstone serves the University as a member of the Policy Review Committee, Financial Project Advisory Committee, IT Advisory Committee, Data Governance Council and a variety of other ad hoc committees and work groups. Her portfolio of work for UVA Advancement includes Database Management, Technology Systems, Reporting, Prospect Management & Research, Community Learning, Finance, and Advancement Services. She is the liaison for services provided to Advancement through UVA Human Resources and IT Services/Desktop support, business arrangements forged under Featherstone’s leadership. Her efforts to shore up disparate data systems and the creation of a Business Intelligence (BI) team is allowing UVA Advancement to make informed, data-based decisions across the Grounds and to identify areas to improve support for UVA’s $5B Honor The Future campaign.
Having previously served as Senior Director of Administration for Cornell University for over a decade, the experience she gained there and in her early career as Budget Director for the State of Colorado Department of Revenue and as Senior Legislative Auditor in the State of Colorado Auditor’s Office, laid a firm foundation for her career principles.
Featherstone received her Bachelor’s degrees in Journalism and Political Science from Metropolitan State University of Denver and the University of Colorado concurrently, and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Colorado.
